You see lots of women gathered at one place doing the cooking. The men will also be gathered at another place chatting heartily. Where huge public address systems are not blurring with music, you are likely to find some young men playing traditional drums such as the “dondo”.  Until recently, I did not know the Muslim marriage rites was called “awuré”. I always called it “amariya”. I have not yet had the privilege to assist in the preparation for this beautiful ceremony. I missed the great opportunity to do so when my cousin was getting married. My maternal grandfather was once a Muslim so some of my family members are Muslims. The Islamic marriage feast, also known as walima, I must say, can be grandeur, especially when the bride is from a wealthy home or is highly educated. The ceremony is ak

EZANEAYA'S NOOK. Written by:  Rebecca Eduafo-Abraham When Mrs. Thompson lost her husband, it was as if her world had come to an end. When she met him 25 years ago, he had just left middle school. She had no formal education at all. Together, they worked hard and invested in his education. He acquired his PhD three years before he died. A hard working trader, Mrs. Thompson made a greater contribution to the assets they owned. However, her husband died without a will and her grief was compounded by her husband’s family’s greed. They insisted on an equal share of the deceased’s property. On the instruction of the family head, the funeral donation was divided into three equal parts – one for Mrs. Thompson and the children of the man, one for the parents of her late husband and the rest went to the other family members. The same proposition was made regarding her late husband’s property. This left Mrs. Thompson devastated because in their most difficult moment, no member o

As a young African, we already know about Bill Gates and Steve Jobs, we read motivational books and we find stories of people like Michael Dell of Dell Computers. All we were told were stories of great inventors of Caucasian descent but never were we taught our own history which affirms that black people are not inadequate but powerful beyond measures and can compete in Medical, Mathematical, Automotive and Technological disciplines with the very best. We were not told of the great story of Dr. Philip Emeagwali ; an African, a Nigerian more precisely, who invented the world’s fastest computer. He is referred to as “The Bill Gates of Africa”.                                                                  Dr. Philip Emeagwali If you own an automatic car, the auto gear shift in your car was invented by an African, Richard Bowie Spikes . He also developed the automatic safety Brake System, the horizontally swinging Barber’s chair that we enjoy at our hair salons, and the bee

Yesteryear's cry in Asunafo South from the NPP was that ' Eric Opoku and his thug are harassing us'' …. Now the tables have turned and Today the cry is Yaw Boakye's thugs are  beating us up. What will tomorrow's cry be? …. We live to see. It is barely two weeks since there was an alleged attack on Hon. Eric Opoku (the current MP for Asunafo South)but that doesn’t make this write up irrelevant. As usual, am presenting my candid opinion as a citizen and resident of Asunafo South. I remember it started like a blockbuster movie plot with a climax everyone worryingly look up to. But has ended in an anti-climax and has rather taken a humorous turn as the protagonists have now vanished like an ant in the mouth of a furnace anytime he enter his so called comfortable and accommodative town SANKORE. Hon. Eric Opoku had all the means, powers, authority and command to bring this violence to an end when he was

GRADUATES BECOMING USELESS AND HOPELESS – THE CASE OF GHANA

Is this a holy thing to see!!! Graduates with degrees, Masters, PhDs carrying their certificates with a cover letters in a basket toiling, loitering and harboring around the street as scavengers. The hell of being a Graduate in Ghana I recently heard that 17000 retirees are still on contract working. I know that most of them never gave their real age when working but rather their football age. How efficient and effective will such an old person be? Most of these retirees don’t have degrees not to talk of masters, Most of these retirees can’t use today’s modern technology. Their style of management is bogus. What do I call this? SELFISH, GREED, RAPACIOUS, GRASPING, INSATIABLE, VARACIOUS… help me add more synonyms because I verse (angry) I remember I read a book titled “WHY NATIONS FAILS” by Daron Acemoglu and the answer was simple from start to finish “INSTITUTIONS …. INSTITUTIONS ….INSTITUTIONS”. Hmm, Ghana is a very interesting country located on a “rich yet poor” co
